If you cannot add your payment card or the service fee cannot be charged, the reason may be related to your card settings, strong customer authentication, the card’s validity, insufficient funds or payment card information that has not been updated correctly.
If you cannot add your payment card
Check the following:
- Online payments are enabled on your card.
The card must support online payments. It is not enough that the physical card works in shops. - International and non-EU online payments are enabled.
Our payment service provider, Stripe, processes payments as an international provider. Check with your bank that your card can be used for international online payments, including payments outside the EU or worldwide payments. - The international online payment limit is high enough.
Even if international online payments are enabled, the card’s payment limit may be too low for the service fee. Check with your bank that the card limit is high enough for the amount being charged. - The card has been activated.
If the card is new, it may not yet be enabled for online payments. Check with your bank that the card has been activated. - The card is valid and unrestricted.
Check the card’s expiry date and security code. Also make sure that the card has not been closed, reported lost or otherwise restricted. - There are sufficient funds available on the card.
The card must have enough available funds when the card is added or the first charge is made. - Strong authentication works correctly.
Your bank may ask you to confirm the card addition, for example in your banking app. If the authentication request does not arrive or the authentication fails, contact your bank. - Try another payment card if necessary.
If the same card still does not work, try another credit or debit card.
If the service fee cannot be charged
An automatic service fee payment may fail for one of the following reasons:
- the card has expired
- the card has been closed or restricted
- there are insufficient funds
- online or international online payments are disabled
- the card payment limit is too low
- your bank requires strong customer authentication
- the card details have not been updated correctly in Stripe or the UKKO service
- Stripe is trying to charge an old payment card
Please note
The Private Trader service uses Stripe as its payment service provider. Your bank or card issuer may request strong customer authentication when you add a card or when an automatic service fee is charged.
